Emerson on Hurumzi occupies four 19th-century buildings in Stone Town, including the former residence of the Sultan's Minister of Finance, close to the Hamamni Persian Baths and Malindi Mosque. Founded in the late 1980s by Dr. Emerson Dewey Skeens, it is one of the taller buildings in Stone Town and includes a rooftop restaurant, a spa with pool and hammam, an exhibition space, a small museum, and a fashion design workshop on site.
