Prohibited items and services

What may never be offered here.

DRAFT — REQUIRES OWNER OR LEGAL REVIEW. This text is provided as a starting point and has not been reviewed by a lawyer.

Anything whose sale or possession is unlawful in Tanzania or Zanzibar.

Wildlife, ivory, coral, shells, turtle products and anything taken from a protected species or a protected area. This is not a formality here: it is the trade the islands lose most from.

Firearms, ammunition, explosives and weapons.

Drugs, controlled substances and the equipment for producing them; prescription medicines offered without a pharmacy.

Human remains, human tissue and organs.

Counterfeit goods and anything infringing somebody else's trade mark or copyright.

Stolen property, and anything whose serial number or identifying mark has been removed.

Sexual services, and any listing offering or seeking a person.

Personal data, account credentials, and access to somebody else's account.

Financial offerings we cannot verify: investment schemes, guaranteed returns, money-multiplying arrangements, and requests for advance fees.

Anything requiring a licence from the offerer where none is held — including tour operation, diving instruction, transport of passengers, and letting of tourist accommodation.
