About
Zala Park is a Zanzibar natural site associated with wildlife sanctuary, conservation.
ZALA Park (Zanzibar Land Animals) is a small reserve in Muungoni village, about 5km from Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park, founded by a local ranger with the explicit goal of teaching children and visitors about protecting Zanzibar's native wildlife. It houses pythons, chameleons, geckos, tortoises, terrapins, monitor lizards, coconut crabs, dik-dik and other native species, many of which are killed elsewhere on the island due to superstition. Guided visits are offered along three routes โ a nature trail, a canoe trail through the mangroves, and a cultural trail through Muungoni village โ and the whole visit can typically be done in half a day.
