Monsoon Restaurant occupies the historic Tunnel Building right on the Forodhani seafront, and is built around traditional Swahili-style dining: guests sit at low tables on floor cushions in a lantern-lit setting rather than at conventional chairs and tables. The kitchen serves classic coastal Swahili dishes, and on Wednesday and Saturday evenings the restaurant hosts live taarab music, the sung-poetry tradition associated with Zanzibar's Arab and Indian Ocean trading past.
