Beit-el-Amani — the 'House of Peace' — was built in 1925 to commemorate the end of the First World War, its whitewashed dome and Arab-influenced design the work of colonial architect J.H. Sinclair. For years many of its most prominent exhibits were gradually shifted toward the House of Wonders, leaving the building feeling thin, but it reopened in May 2024 with renewed displays covering Zanzibar's history and everyday customs.

Inside, the single-building layout makes for an easy, unhurried visit at your own pace, though museum staff are generally available to answer questions. The building sits on Kaunda Road at the southern edge of Stone Town.

As of this research the museum is confirmed open and operating under regular hours.
