Built between 1870 and 1888 by Shirazi architects for Sultan Barghash bin Said, Hamamni was Zanzibar's first public bathhouse and operated continuously until 1920. The complex of hot and cold rooms, changing areas, and a small restaurant space is laid out much as it was, with informational cards explaining how each room was used.

The baths no longer function as a working hammam, but the building itself is the exhibit: visitors wind through the original stone chambers and climb to a rooftop vantage point with views over the surrounding neighborhood.

Entry is by small donation; visitors come and go at their own pace, typically spending 20–30 minutes inside.
