A short walk from Nungwi's hotel strip, past the last buildings and onto the open beach, sits one of Zanzibar's working dhow boatyards, where craftsmen have turned out ten to fifteen new wooden boats a year for generations. There are no blueprints: builders shape each hull by eye and experience, using adzes and simple hand tools, a skill passed down within families.

Visitors walk the yard watching the stages of construction, and operators offering the hands-on version let visitors try simple woodworking steps themselves under a craftsman's guidance. This is distinct from the platform's existing Traditional Ngalawa Sailing listing, which is about being on the water, not watching or helping build the boat itself.

Several named operators (including Hazzes Adventure and Destination Paradise) run this as a bookable half-day add-on to a Nungwi itinerary.
