The State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) is Zanzibar's public university, established by an Act of the House of Representatives in 1999 and becoming operational in 2002. Its main campus sits in Tunguu, about 12km from Zanzibar Town, with additional campuses spread across Unguja -- including Nkrumah at Beit el Ras, Vuga in Stone Town, Chwaka, Kizimbani and Maruhubi -- plus a campus on Pemba, reflecting its role as the islands' principal centre for public higher education.
