About
Fukuchani Beach is a Zanzibar beach associated with named beach.
Fukuchani Beach fronts the village of Fukuchani on Unguja's northwest coast, about 12km south of Nungwi. The village is home to the Fukuchani Ruins, a national monument dating to roughly the 16th century - a fortified coral-rag residence with thick defensive walls, a preserved freshwater well, and an adjoining limestone cave with a freshwater pool used for swimming and snorkelling. Archaeologists debate whether the ruins are Portuguese or Swahili in origin; locally the site is known as the 'Portuguese House.'
