Makunduchi Beach

Makunduchi Beach lies on Zanzibar's far southern coast, fronting the village of Makunduchi, and is known for quiet coral-cliff-lined shoreline rather than the busier resort strips of the east and north coasts. Makunduchi is the traditional host village of Mwaka Kogwa, the Shirazi (Persian) New Year festival held each year around late July, in which the community holds mock banana-stick fights, ritual hut-burning by a traditional healer to divine the coming year's fortunes, and communal feasting that no visitor or resident is meant to go hungry through.
