Jambiani Seaweed Centre is a Zanzibar experience associated with seaweed farm, community experience.
This community-run centre in Jambiani village processes locally farmed seaweed — Zanzibar's second-largest industry — into soaps, scrubs, oils and juices, and gives visitors a look at the processing side of an economy usually seen only from the beach. At low tide nearby, the seaweed farms themselves become visible, with local women in colourful kangas tending seaweed cultivated on wooden poles planted in the shallow water, work that provides income for the wider village.
