About

Muyuni Forest is a Zanzibar natural site associated with forest, nature walk.

Muyuni Forest is a small woodland of around 30 hectares near Jozani village in southern Unguja, home to Sykes' monkeys, vervet monkeys and the endemic Zanzibar red colobus, along with various birds, reptiles and small mammals. Tours here are usually combined with a visit to Muyuni village, where residents demonstrate traditional crafts such as rope-making, basket-weaving and makuti (palm-thatch) plaiting, and sometimes include a stop at the nearby Ngonga Cave, a site of local spiritual significance used for healing ceremonies.
