About
A long sandy beach fronting a strip village on Zanzibar's southeast coast, roughly 6km of coastline, known for seaweed farming alongside tourism.
Jambiani is a cluster of villages on Unguja's southeast coast between Paje and Makunduchi, recorded at roughly 7,000 residents in the 2012 census. Fishing employs around 1,350-1,500 people locally, while seaweed farming - once a major employer of nearly 400, mostly women - has declined to about 50 workers today. The shallow, reef-protected water draws kitesurfers, and the Kuza Swimming Cave, a natural limestone cave pool, is a notable nearby attraction alongside hotels such as Blue Oyster and Spice Island Resort.
