About

Pungume Island is a Zanzibar island associated with island, snorkelling.

Pungume Island is an uninhabited coral-rag island and the largest of the islands within the Menai Bay Conservation Area, off Zanzibar's southwest coast. A protective barrier reef encloses a calm, clear lagoon that has made it one of the region's premier snorkeling and diving spots, with coral gardens, reef fish and, further out, pelagic species such as barracuda and trevally. The surrounding waters are also a habitat for Indo-Pacific bottlenose and humpback dolphins. Typical day excursions from Zanzibar combine snorkeling around the island with a stop on a sandbank for a fresh seafood lunch.
