About
Masingini Forest is a Zanzibar natural site associated with forest, viewpoint.
Masingini Forest covers around 556 hectares in Zanzibar's western district, about 8km from Stone Town, and takes its name from the many gullies โ over 35 of them โ that cut through the landscape. Sitting at roughly 120 metres, the island's highest point, the forest offers panoramic views back over Stone Town and the port, and serves as the main water catchment area for the old town and surrounding communities. It is home to rare trees and wildlife, including the endemic Zanzibar red colobus monkey, and is a popular short hiking and nature-walk destination combined with nearby spice farm visits.
