About

Shangani Waterfront is a Zanzibar cultural site associated with historic waterfront, scenic.

Shangani is the historic seafront quarter on the western edge of Stone Town, where a small pre-16th-century fishing village grew into East Africa's leading Swahili trading port. Many of the town's major 19th-century Omani-era landmarks line this waterfront district, including the House of Wonders and the Old Fort, alongside the Anglican cathedral and Palace Museum nearby. Today Shangani remains a gathering place at sunset, known for its seafront restaurants serving fresh seafood and Swahili dishes, and for views of traditional wooden dhows sailing in and out of the harbour.
