About

Bububu Beach is a Zanzibar beach associated with named beach.

Bububu is a town on Unguja's west coast just north of Stone Town, best known as the terminus of the Bububu Railway, East Africa's first railway line, built in 1904 by the American firm Arnold Cheney & Co. The 3ft-gauge, seven-mile line ran from Zanzibar Town along the seafront to Bububu, carrying passengers, steamship arrivals and freight such as stone and coral blocks before closing in 1930; some embankments and bridge remains can still be found near the main road. Local legend holds that the village's name echoes the sound of the old locomotive.
