This shop sells connectivity for Airtel Tanzania, which traces back to the 2001 privatisation of Tanzania Telecommunications Company and operated as Celtel and then Zain before rebranding as Airtel in 2010. Airtel is majority-owned by India's Bharti Airtel (51%), with the Government of Tanzania holding the remaining 49%, and is the country's third-largest mobile operator with roughly a quarter of the market by subscribers, behind Vodacom and Tigo. It was the first operator in Tanzania to launch GPRS/EDGE data service, in 2006, and participates in Airtel's 'One Network' scheme allowing borderless roaming across Africa and Asia.
