About

A Moorish-style country palace built in 1915 for Sultan Khalifa bin Harub, originally named Kasri Saada ("House of Happiness"), roughly 6km north of Stone Town in Bububu; now displays Zanzibari royal furniture, Persian rugs and diplomatic gifts, and has served as the main venue for the sultanate collection while the House of Wonders and Palace Museum in town were closed for restoration.

Built in 1915 as a country home for Sultan Khalifa bin Harub, the ninth Sultan of Zanzibar, whose 48-year reign is the longest in the sultanate's history, Kibweni Palace lies about 6km north of Stone Town in Bububu. Among the items on display for visitors are the sultan's bed, a shaving chair and other personal furnishings, along with books written by his daughter Princess Salme, giving a domestic counterpoint to the grander state museums in town.
