Jaws Corner is a small, informal town square in Baghani, in the heart of Stone Town, where several of the old quarter's narrow, winding alleys converge. It grew out of an impromptu coffee stall set up by an elderly local vendor, and has since become one of Stone Town's best-known everyday gathering places, where residents meet to drink small cups of strong, unsweetened Arabic-style coffee brewed over charcoal stoves, discuss news and local politics, and socialise in an open-air, courtyard-like setting. Tucked behind a mosque near the intersection of Baghani and Gizenga streets, it offers visitors a glimpse of ordinary Stone Town social life rather than a formal monument.
