Mnarani Marine Turtles Conservation Pond

About
A natural tidal rock pool at the northern tip of Nungwi used since 1993 as a community-run rehabilitation sanctuary for injured sea turtles.
The conservation pond takes its name from Mnarani, Swahili for 'place of the lighthouse', referring to the Nungwi lighthouse that marks Zanzibar's northern tip nearby. What is now a rehabilitation sanctuary is in fact a natural tidal pool cut into the coral rock behind the beach, connected to the sea and topped up at high tide. A community group has run it since 1993, originally to treat turtles injured or trapped in fishing nets; today visitors can view, feed and swim alongside resident hawksbill and green turtles as part of the sanctuary's ongoing conservation work.
